Neuro-Counselling Services

We provide a person-centred approach to brain-based therapy that is designed to educate, empower, engage, and facilitate processes of growth, self-awareness, and self-healing.

Keystone Therapy has developed a model of the root causes of behaviour.  The model is holistic in that it integrates neurobiological, social and cultural impacts upon the psychological processes that underlie mental health. Introducing new learning, which brings about changes in the brain, results in concomitant changes in behaviour. Thus, through utilizing the brain’s inherent ability (“neuroplasticity”) to form new neural connections new behaviours arise.

Whole Health = Mental Helath

Lifestyle Mental Health focuses on addressing  challenges through an integrated, holistic approach to health, which includes recommendations for exercise, diet, sleep and mindfulness practice for helping people manage their psychiatric disorders. While these ideas are not new, research continues to expand our understanding of how different aspects of lifestyle can help prevent and treat mental health conditions.

We offer an integrated approach to the development of lifestyles that support positive behaviour challenges that address issues such as stress, sleep, diet and exercise that lead to habit change and neuroplasticity.

Dealing with challenges

Keystone Therapy offers neuro-counselling/psychotherapy services for adult and child clients who may have ADHD, ADD and ASD symptoms. These services are delivered by a clinician who is a registered  Clinical Holistic therapist and a full member of the Australian ADHD Professionals Association and the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health. They also specialize in neuropsychology, behavioural neuroscience and Brain-Based Therapies (BBT) and their application to challenges such as ADHD, Anger, Anxiety, Attachment, Autism, Depression, Emotional Regulation, and Trauma.

Stress and sleep - Silent Killers!

Anxiety acnd depression can interfere with the ability to fall asleep, as well as quality and duration. Lack of sleep can lead to higher levels of stress, frustration, depression and anxiety.

Dealing with Stress (an important part of human biology that allows people to react quickly and decisively in the face of challenging or dangerous situations. However, too much stress can have a profound impact on sleep and overall health.

Stress and sleep have a reciprocal relationship. High levels of stress can contribute to trouble sleeping, and poor-quality or insufficient sleep can lead to maladaptive changes to the stress response.

Therefore, in addressing either it is necessary to understand and develop interventions, strategies and tactics to prevent and mitigate the adverse impacts that arise if an individual is stressed and/or sleep affected.

To this end Keystone therapy is pleased to announce that as of 1st December 2023 that it will be offering, in addition to other therapeutic services, a series of stress and sleep management approaches that support the prevention and mitigation of the adverse impacts that can give rise to mental and physical health issues (see the Psychoneuroimmunology section on this FB page and also https://www.verywellmind.com/relationship-between-stress... & https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9265846/

For more information of this very important topic please contact us.

We provide specific therapy designed to mitigate and ameliorate the impacts of insomnia* upon the psychological, neurological and immunological systems that can lead to mental and physical health problems.

(* Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. It also can cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. Cognitive behavioral therapy, sometimes called CBT, can effectively treat long-term sleep problems like insomnia. Generally, it's the first treatment recommended.

CBT helps you find out which thoughts and behaviors cause sleep problems or make them worse. You learn how to replace these thoughts and behaviors with habits that support sound sleep. Unlike sleeping pills, CBT helps you overcome the causes of your sleep problems.)

Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI)

To support the above we offer Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) services that address challenges affecting our psychology, our nervous system, and our immune system.  PNI deals with how loneliness and poor sleep induces inflammation during stress, as shown by increases by molecules normally involved in immune system support being more activated in this situation. The hypothalamus, responds to basic needs to keep us alive including sleep. In turn, our body responds and induces an immune system response to “defend” us from this “attack”.

Mind-body Integration (MBI)

To support our services, we also offer Mind-body integration (MBI) which is about embodying self-awareness so that we can genuinely transform our minds and regulate our emotions. The mind-body skills practiced give us the opportunity to become aware of ourselves on a deeper level and learn how to manage our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Neurodiversity

We also provide Neurodiversity affirming sevices.

Examples of conditions those who are Neurodiverse may have include:

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Dyslexia

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Dyslexia

  • Dyspraxia

When seeking services for an individual who is neurodiverse, such as someone with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, or Dyspraxia, you may want to consider looking for a neurodiversity affirming service provider.
